Do Santa Rosa United United, Sonoma County Alliance and SRJC and the area high schools produce any college-worthy soccer talent?
Ubetcha.
And Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. a lot of that talent on the boys side will be on display in Rohnert Park as Sonoma State and Dominican play a non-conference game as they continue to tune-up for their respective conference races.
No less that 15 Empire players with SRU and/or SCA ties will be on display in the match.
SSU will start its California Collegiate Athletic Association campaign at 1:30 p.m. Friday when the Seawolves entertain Cal Poly Pomona. SSU is coming off a season-opening come-from-behind 4-2 win Saturday night at Fresno Pacific
Dominican (0-1-1) will have one more non-conference game on Friday at home in San Rafael against St. Martin’s and then the Penguins open play in the Pacific West Conference on Sept. 16th against defending conference champion Grand Canyon.
No one really loses in Tuesday’s game, it’s a salute to the Empire soccer community.
And, of course, both teams are lead by Sonoma County coaches. Entering his 20th season at SSU is Analy High product Marcus Ziemer while Maria Carrillo graduate Jonathan Delano is in his second season as the DU head coach.
It wouldn’t be a bad day to load up the youth team, run them over to SSU and show them some of the local soccer talent that started doing just what they are doing not so many years ago.
Following are the players on each team with Empire ties…
