If they were pro baseball teams, you might say that the Sonoma State University men’s and women’s soccer teams were breaking training camp Saturday.

Both will play their final scrimmage/exhibition games at home before embarking on their 2010 regular seasons.

The SSU women will be first up with a 2:30 p.m. contest against Dominican University. The Seawolf men will face Saint Mary’s at 5 p.m.

The SSU women open regular season play when they host Western Oregon at 4 p.m. next Thursday. The SSU men will travel to Fresno Pacific to take on the Sunbirds in a 7 p.m. start on Sept. 4th.

In a preseason coaches poll, the SSU men have been selected to win the north division of the California Collegiate Athletic Association and the SSU women were picked to finish second in the CCAA North.

Dominican has eight former Sonoma County high school women players on its roster.

Go out and take look at all that local talent. You’ll be impressed.
