Sigler & Chambers combo excel at collegiate level

by pinella

Patrick Sigler and Evan Chambers were teammates on the same Cardinal Newman High team three years ago. Now they are making an impact on their respective collegiate squads.

Sigler is a red-shirt sophomore defender who has started all 19 games for Cal Poly this season. From his defensive position he has two goals, two assists and has taken 14 shots for Cal Poly which is 8-9-2 as it awaits its position in the Big West Conference tournament. The draw for that event will be held on Saturday.

Chambers, meanwhile, is a junior midfielder for the 13-3-1 Div. III UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. Chambers has played in all 17 UCSC games this year, starting 15 of them. He has a goal and four assists.

On the women’s Banana Slugs’ roster is freshman forward Elaine Stanfield from Sonoma Valley High. She has not played this season.

2 locals squared up in the semis of the CCAA conference between the Women’s UCSD and Dominguez Hills game last Friday. Dominguea Hills has freshman Colleen McNamare from Petaluma and UCSD has freshman defender Hayley Johnson from Carrillo,,,both are starters!
Chico played in the other semifinal with Alex Rodriguez and Ashley Perlman from Ursuline getting playing time!

oops it is Coleen McNamee not Mcnamare! Also Cat Barnekow SR alum and SRJC all-american starts for North Carolina (Greensborough) and just won league last weekend! There are well over 50 Sonoma County collegiate players just on the women’s side!
To 1Coach: it is a little premature to talk about commitments this early. Until signing day in Feb, some will change their minds or get new offers when top players finally commit..or find out they are academically ineligible.
