Aggies’ Empire connection

Go north a bit and you’ll find the UC Davis mens & women’s rosters is sprinkled with Sonoma County talent from three Empire high schools.

The 6-11-1 Aggie men play their regular season finale at 7 Saturday night at UC Santa Barbara.

Empire players on the UCD men’s roster:

- Andrew Robello, a Cardinal Newman product who plays midfield and forward, has been in 14 games and started one. The red-shirt freshman has taken four shots but hasn’t connected for a goal yet.

- Ethen Shawlee is a Montgomery grad who is also a red-shirt freshman defender. Shawlee has been in nine Aggie games, starting once. He has one shot on goal.

- Tommy Siragusa, a red-shirt freshman goalie, hasn’t played this season. He is a St. Vincent graduate.

And, of course, the Aggies’ head coach is a former SRJC standout, Dwayne Shaffer.

On the women’s side, which finished with a 6-10-1 record:

- Aggie starting goalie was Sarah Peters, a freshman by way of Petaluma High. Sarah started all 17 games for the Aggies logging over 1,500 minutes, allowing 22 goals and making 65 saves.

- Shawna Kelley, a junior defender from Rancho Cotate High, didn’t get to play this season.

    UC Davis does have a Women’s Soccer Team and there are at least
    two players from Sonoma County on the roster
    You might want to check it out and add them to your article.
