Throw-ins and tidbits

- Action from Wednesday night’s Analy win over Maria Carrillo.
Corner Kicks has decided to not comment on the officiating this season. Oftentimes, it has become more of a topic at gamesthan the players on the field.
And Wednesday night appeared to be one of those occasions. But the epitome of the situation came in the second half when the center ref, jogging backward, took a misstep and fell done on the Maria Carrillo field. That caused an uproar of laughter from the stands.
Now we can only hope that the quality of refs rises as we reach the quarterfinals…
COLLEGE NOTES
- The Maria Carrillo Pumas aren’t going to repeat at NCS champs after Wednesday night’s loss to Analy, and a couple of the stars of last season’s NCS champs aren’t playing either. Riley Kovatch (Cal) and Cortland Forsyth (Cal Poly) both redshirted this season…
- Kyle Marsh (SR High) played in six games for the Cal Bears and had one shot on goal. Here’s a little trivia on Kyle – his great grandfather, Mark Koenig, played for the 1927 New York Yankees…
- On Cal’s women’s team are Santa Rosa High’s Gina Pellegrini (senior, goalie) who has played in 13 games, 12 as a starter this season and has recorded 27 saves; Sonoma Valley’s Katie Benz (sophomore, forward) who has been on the pitch for 6 games and has taken one shot; and Ursuline’s Natasha Richardson, a red-shirt sophomore…
- At Stanford, redshirt sophomore Taylor Amman (Santa Rosa High) has played in 16 games for the Cardinal, starting one and he has scored a goal this season.
We’ll offer more collegiate updates in the coming posts.

I am going to analogize, Bill. The referee falling down while backstepping is like your blogging that the referee “fell done.” A bad typo, especially for a journalist. So you and the Center Ref are all even.

Yeah, great that you won’t be taking any cheap shots at the refs.

I really like the fact that some folks are following the kids to the next level. We get very little information on the college games they are involved in.What is up with the SRJC girls team-are there injuries

Kind of short on the college notes, Bill. Ursuline’s Courtney Parsons is University of San Diego’s starting keeper, backed up by Carillo’s Alex Dinan. USD also has former UHS Bear Addie Cartan playing. Other Bears are Christine Tognetti, at Saint Marys, and Joanie Piasta at USF, For Carillor and UHS both, check the roster at Dominican, Jon Delano is loaded with Redwood Empire players, and Luke Oberkirk has some on his Sonoma State squad. Newman’s Andrew Robello is at Davis. Pat Sigler at Cal Poly, and Evan Chambers at Santa Cruz. It would take a MUCH larger blog for you to list the local players from the last 2 or 3 years that are playing top level soccer. Face it, there has been, is now, and will be, a LOT of talent here!

How about listing all the current seniors in both NBL and SCL who are committed and which college they’ve chosen?
