Bill, it’s Marin Academy in Div 3 and NCS has it as 7-0, not 6-0.

Looks like the really competitive games of the evening were Analy vs. MC and Drake vs. Casa, both interleague matchups which makes the results even more interesting.

damn tam vs SR strong D vs strong O lets see who wins that battle

Sonoma 2 Eureka1

i heard tam beat sonoma 4-3

Sonoma got F’ed over tonight. But look out next year cause they will be just as strong.
by NCS
And now the result from Arnold Field is up– Sonoma Valley defense can’t hold up, like when it gave up 7 to Windsor. Surprised so many goals can be scored on that postage stamp field. HDNL does get its props, on women’s side, with home field advantage looking like it made some difference — Aracata over Ursuline in OT (”sudden victory”).
by Soccer Fan
Girls- SVHS 2 Eureka 0
SVHS boys lost on an apparently bad call. Not sure of the final score. GO DRAGOOOONS!

Way to go Elsie! You are the real deal!
by Elsie fan
Nice game tonight by the Panthers… pretty much dominated the Hounds in route to a 4-0 victory. 2 goals ea for JMac and GALINDO! Also a few really nice acrobatic saves by Brad Taylor in the net…. A solid team effort and some nice classy moves by JS in clearing the bench. So…Fanatico nailed this one with his 4-0 prediction…were you there tonight Mr Fanatico…? I was scanning the crowd with my Sony HD… When will you reveal yourself??? I didn’t see a sign “I’m with Fanatico”… hmmm?

Well Golly Gee. I just checked the NCS website to verify the girls game times this weekend and guess what I found. The NCS has changed the records for both Maria Carrillo and Montgomery to reflect their playoff game as a win for MC and a loss for Monty. With that in mind, I really don’t know how they justified the seedings. Well its water under the bridge now. Good Luck to the top four, Maria Carrillo, Montgomery, Casa Grande and Santa Rosa. Any could win it all (And one of them will). All the girls deserve it. We’ll have to see who wants it. Looking forward to a great playoff.

Ursuline might have won if their own school had bothered to host the game instead of making them travel to Humboldt…it’s good know that at least somewhere, soccer players “know their place” and docilely accept third-class status !! I bet the boys team would not have been allowed to host, too.

Sonoma 2 – Eureka 0
The scores were called in, but as usual, not posted on the PD site.
Sonoma girls were inspired. Eureka gave them a game.
by eye witness
Major issue at the Ursuline/Arcata game. The score was 1-1 at the end of regulation play. The refs called the captains over and said there would be two ten minute ot’s, then two five minute ots, then pk’s. He told them this was not sudden death.
Arcata scored in the first 10 minutes. The refs had the players switch sides and they played the next 10 minutes, Ursuline scored. At 2-2 they played the next two 5 minute ot’s, neither team scored. As they were about to begin the pk’s the officials decided they might have made a mistake… AD’s made phone calls… the players waited and waited. Finally it was decided that oh, the Arcata team won.
Can someone explain to me how officials can participate in a game without knowing the rules. The fact that they back tracked was completely unacceptable. The pk’s should have been played out at that point. This was handled very poorly. I don’t know if whoever was contacted at NCS knew how far the game had gone and how the refs had given incorrect information to the players and had them play accordingly. This can’t just slide by, it needs to be handled correctly!

“Whew” what fantastic games….Fanatico here….just to inform you that Fanatico did a pretty good job in his predictions…ended up 15 wins and 8 losses…not bad…not great but not bad…Fanatico will improve on this…Fanatcio nailed 4 games…the S.helena vs St. Bernard girls, SVHS girls vs Eureka, Terra Linda vs Piner boys and the SRHS vs HHS boys…”eye in the sky” thank you for the support and just to let you know Fanatico was not at the SRHS game….Fanatico went to TL to watch the TL vs Piner game…wow…Piner had a chance but dropped mentally after a TL player got a red card….TL scored 2 goals with 10 PLAYERS!….and some people were saying that Coach Dold should be Coach of the year…come on the team had a mental break down and Coach Dold almost busted a vein he was yellin so much….then Fanatico went to see the Windsor vs Arcata game…Arcata played well but Windsor was just tooo strong. TO JON-who was complaining about EAHS being seeded over Sonoma…ok so where is Sonoma now…getting ready for Thanksgiving…Fanatico has Sonoma winning but they resorted to the old Sonoma team which gave Windsor 7 goals…and last night they let Tam score 4 on them….JON where are you….? That is why EAHS was seeded higher than Sonoma…Other soccer thoughts:…what happened at Arcata with the Ursuline girls? Fanatico heard there was some sort of debacle….didn’t go about the overtime criteria correctly….Fanatico is sure that is going to be a point of converation….can someone comment on this? Fanatico didn’t make it to Arcata…Analy vs MCHS….ooooh “how the mighty have fallen”…With Austin done the Pumas look weak for the upcoming years….Not surprised by the EAHS score….would like to hear how the game was? Was anyone at the game? Any commentary? On the small school side Fanatico has always like Anderson Valley…great team and great coach…Fanatico also like RUP…haven’t seen any of the Marin small schools but he is looking forward to watching them play. In closing, Fanatico would like to thank all of his fans….and he will continue to bring you the most interesting soccer info that you can find….the season is almost over and Fanatico will sleep for the winter…so be sure to enjoying while he is still awake!!!
FANATICO OUT!!!

Where are all the Sonoma fans? Talking trash all year long how great they are and then they get rolled by the 5th place MCAL team.

Saw the EAHS vs Monty game. Came in at halftime and the score was 1-1. At the start of the 2nd half EA had couple of great oppty’s to score but Monty came on and was taking it to EA. Monty came close to putting the ball in the back of the net, they were putting a lot of pressure on EA. But then the Monty coach started to sub and changed the whole dynamics of the team. Those changes cost Monty the game because EA scored soon after that. I felt bad for the Seniors on the Monty team since they were the ones subbed out (they were the ones making the impact???!!!) and were never put back in the game. Coach should of at least put them back on the field so they could finish out their HS careers.
Monty is a pretty young team and have a lot of potential, all they need is someone who knows how to coach a soccer team and they could be a contender for next year.

He was at the Piner game…cuz his wife is the girls JV coach at Piner. Why else would any one drive to Terra Linda to watch a bottom tier team. Get a clue.
by Fanatico is Outted
I think it is about time that some outside comittee oversaw both the refs and the ncs. They need to review how these refs are making calls and get them back into the school, they allow players to be hurt on the field and make stupid mistakes about the rules. I know it is tough, but they should be held accountable, some refs should be given red cards, why don’t hey have other ref oversee them at some games sometimes. They should have at least two unofficial official at the ncs games to make sure that someone knows the calls and the rules. NCS get your act together, get all the athletic directors together and fix what need fixing. Instead of the almighty what I say goes rules.
by Observer
Common, what happen up at Arcata was ridiculous. Who is going to be held accountable for that big mistake!!!!
by wow
Question Authority…thanks for the information regarding the issue at Arcata….Fanatico agrees with you on this issue…how does NCS charge an arm and a leg (if your arm and leg cost $9 for adults and $6 for students) and have such incompetant ref’s. This should not happen at this level of play. It is ref’s like these and the ones in Mendocino County that make Fanatico appreciate the officiating in Sonoma County. So what happens now…Poor Ursuline had to drive 4 to 5 hours and conteplate what might have been? All that aside why didn’t the AD’s try to get a game for the girls at home? Who knows if it would have made a difference but the bottom line it would be hard to lose the way they did especially if you are a senior…Fanatico’s heart goes out to those girls…as we speak Fanatico is punching numbers, looking at results and matchups to get his picks out by Friday night…so stay tuned to FANATICO TV!….FANATICO OUT!!!

It wasn’t the officials questioning anything in Arcata, it was Arcata’s principal. She came to the field, made her declaration that the game was over, and told the referees not to start the PKs. Other than the facts that she has no authority over the refs and the paying of the game, the refs having no idea of the rules(as if they don’t come up with new ones daily that no one has ever heard), neither teams’ coaches protesting the tie procedures by accepting the refs’ set, AND playing through 30 minutes of soccer that were thrown out, it was just another typical game! When will the NCS, NBL, SCL, etc. ever learn? As long as the NCS rakes in some dough for the NCS, no one cares about the players or any ramifications in games like this. As the announcement always says, “The NCS gets no other money than from its sponsors, and that made at these NCS playoffs.” Maybe Les Schwab should contribute more, so the players and fans can suffer less?
by LOL
I was at the Arcata-Ursuline game and it was a well played match by both sides. Too bad the refs had not listened to the stadium announcer who correctly ‘read’ the overtime procedures. However, in the end the NCS officials got it correct.
It was unfortunate that both teams had to play an additional 20 min (extra 10 min plus two 5 minute OTs??) and it left one team (justifiably) feeling they had been given the wrong end of the deal. Imagine had Ursuline been awarded the match winning on PK’s based on following erroneous rules.
by Another Fan
“Fanatico is Outted” have you lost your marbles….’his wife is the JV coach” the jv coach from what team? the soccer team, the VB team..the BB team…regardless the reason that Fanatico went to TL was to enjoy a great game between two teams…that is it…can’t someone go to a game without having some connection to the team….? Well “Fanatico is OUTTED” you are completely WRONG!!!….Well it has come to having Fanatico as a ref and also that Fanatico’s wife is a coach…well both are wrong…who knows…Fanatico could be a parent, he could be a student, he could be a senior citizen who is retired and just enjoys soccer….heck Fanatico could be YOU!!! FANATICO OUT!!!
by Fanatico
The refs made the right decision in not allowing the PK’s…they were fortunate that the Arcata principal saved their butts on it before it was REALLY too late, if indeed that is what happened. How they did not know by the start of the OT is worthy of a ref reprimand or whatever they do.
But, really, Ursuline players were most screwed by their own administration, which apparently never tried to host the game to begin with (which would have meant more experienced Sonoma County refs also). The Ursuline team and parents need to look into why they did not host. As for the refs’ blunder, it was ultimately handled correctly.
by observing
Between the refs and coaches, how in the heck did this situation occur? Refs are specifically chosen for their ability to ref these play-off games. The victims are the girls from UHS who are the ones playing the game and were told by a ref that they would play 2 10 minute OT halfs w/ no mention of golden goal. Neither coach or alternate refs spoke up. Did they know the rules? Should they have?. Why was higher seeded UHS even going up there to play? Strange!
by BearFan
Hey Observer, thank you for bringing the attention to the EA/Monty game, but I disagree with you to some extent. This was a play-off game, isn’t the goal to win? The best players should be on the field to accomplish that task, no matter senior or sophomore. I witnessed the entire game and the tying goal was made by a SOPHOMORE in the first half before you arrived. This same player had quality strikes on goal all night and great passes. How could you not notice this talent? Monty had a chance to win this game before changes were made in the second half, you are correct there.
by Chelsea
The worst thing that could have happened would have been a player getting injured after Arcata scored its goal in OT.
by Soccer Fan
i feel bad for my idol vicente sosa. He deserved a better coach out there. Pretty damn selfish of him to sub him out when the team needed him the most and kept him out the remainder of the game. He was their only hope for victory. I hope this doesn’t offend any of the players by saying the coach kept the most dangerous/best player on the bench.
by vicente sosa fan
to observing
yes it was ultimately handled correctly, but it should have never come to that. Who paid for it, not the refs, the girls did and yes it was being questioned why UHS did not host, it was the seeding committee that made that decision, the soccer gods for the seeding through emails etc, there was not face to face as in past years, the refs did not make the right decision, they made a big mistake and should be held accountable for it, but of course they won’t, like how many kids did refs allow to get hurt during the season, someone should sue them at some point to get a point across, safety and knowing the rules is what your are there for. Why didn’t the principal come out sooner or why did the coach of arcata say something before hand, they are in the wrong too, they agreed to the rules of the ref, should have let the girls finish that way, would have been a better solution. No one would have felt bad afterwards. Guess cheating is okay as long as it is the ref and the principal of the school.
by wow
LISTEN, URSULINE MIGHT NOT HAVE EVEN BEEN IN THE PLAYOFFS DUE TO THE FACT THE THAT REF’S BLEW A MAJOR CALL IN THEIR LAST GAME OF THE SEASON. YOU REMEMBER, THE TIME YOUR GOALIE PUNCHED THE BALL THAT HIT THE INSIDE BACK PART OF THE CROSSBAR AND NET RESULTING IN A NON-GOAL, BECAUSE THE AR WAS SO OUT OF POSITION. I GUESS IT’S OK IF THE CALL’S GO IN YOUR FAVOR, BUT UNFAIR WHEN THE CALL GOES AGAINST YOU.
by VIDDLEMAN
As a fan of high school soccer, I have to say that it is a bit odd to project that a school will be weak in the coming years because one player is graduating. Every year, teams lose good players to graduation and have to restructure the next year. Soccer is a team sport and woe to the team who puts too much hope in one player. Carrillo lost 12 seniors last year and we all knew that this year would be a rebuilding year. They had a good year learning to work together with a bit of playoff experience under their belt. Now they have next year to look forward to. It could be a very interesting and fun year as many of those players now have several months of soccer ahead of them to improve and refine their skills. They will come back bigger and stronger. They also have a coach that knows the game and has the respect of his players. Don’t be so fast to dismiss them….next year is always full of promise… for all the teams!
by H.S. Soccer Fan
To “H.S.Soccer Fan” Fanatico didn’t try to offend any of the PUMA faithful…he was just stating the obvious…there is no doubt that the younger Pumas will get better, stronger and faster….but guess what so will the other schools. If you were to look at the stats this season….Austin scored probably about 70% of the Pumas goals…and come on lets be real…all the other teams had to do was “spy” on Austin and let the rest of the pumas beat them…and in most cases they didn’t. Sure it takes 11 players plus subs to play a game and Austin is just one player,….a great player…but just one player none the less…taking him out this year is going to be costly…will other step up…one surely hopes sooo…Look at last years team…a great team…but this year is another year and next year will come and what will happen? who knows…Coach Mastin will do a great job in building a quality strong team…and they will compete…but not like they were before…FANATICO OUT!
by Fanatico
One thing Fanatico missed with his comment about the Pumas and the coach….and it’s more an observation than a critique.
The Pumas were handed nearly a dozen players from 2 SR United teams who were Finalist’s or Champions in the State Cup tournament. You’d have to be a goofball not to win with those players. Montgomery girls and Ursuline saw this for about 4 years a couple years back….hence the huge success they had. Since the talent has shifted, Ursuline is a shell of their former self, Montgomery will see that starting next year.
The reality is…it has little to do with the coach….if they don’t have the talent….it doesn’t matter who the coach might be. In the same view….if you’re handed talented, trained players….it also doesn’t matter who’s coaching.
by 1Coach
Ursline got hosed by the NCS committee. The committee decided it was not fair to have both the boys and girls Arcata teams travel so they decided Ursline had to travel.
The refs at this game had the teams play both overtimes. It ended in a 2-2 tie. Afterall the refs are reffing the game not the principal so the game as of right now is a tie, 2-2. Think about it. NCS committee are you there???
by soccer fan
1Coach…Fanatico agrees with you in your assessment of why Maria C. boys and Monty girls have had success but there still has to be some sort of coach that can bring those teams together……even SRHS boys team is the U-17 SRU team or at least some of them and coach Schwan has to have had some sort of working relationship with those boys. A coach just can come in and expect a championship….there has to be trust, hard work and communication……but there is a shift…if you look at Piner, EAHS, Sonoma, Windsor, Casa and a few boys from Monty and some of Petaluma boys they are most from Athletico….and with the exception of SRHS all the other teams have some SRUnited but they have a large group of Athletico Santa Rosa players…..Both the U-15, U-16 and U-17 Athletico boys teams are extremely talented….and you have seen some of those boys on the pitch with different teams…Fanatico like the shift ….Fanatico was tired of seeing MCHS, Monty, Cn boys winning and battling at NCS it is good to see other teams on top….so my congrats to Santa Rosa, EAHS, still alive from the NBL and from the SCL Windsor, Analy and Casa….5 out of the 8 teams in the Division 1 are Redwood Empire teams…continued success….
FANATICO OUT!!
by Fanatico
Ursuline did not host the game because the school did not turn in its application to host– that is not the fault of NCS.
According to this article, Coach did not know the procedure for OT himself:
http://www.times-standard.com/sports/ci_13718969
The procedure is on the NCS website– all you have to do is click on it and read.
by Soccer Fan
It’s funny how everybody in the NBL and SCL is so caught up in their own teams and so ignorant of the other teams. If you look at the boys D1 bracket 3 out of 8 teams are from MCAL and I personally think that they are the most well rounded teams. I saw the Tam vs Sonoma game and Tam ran Sonoma off the field. The two pk’s that were called against Sonoma were obvious and blatant and the ref should have called a couple more, had he not been so biased towards Sonoma. I have seen Marin Catholic play and they are heads and shoulders above Santa Rosa or Windsor, as we saw at the Bay City Invitational. I personally can’t stand Tam as a Redwood grad, but that defense they have over there is the best in NCS and they will be the best next year too. They have the best outside backs for sure. Santa Rosa is a psychotic team that is going to frustrate themselves by not scoring in the first 10 minutes and will do something stupid to get red cards or give up easy goals. Don’t be surprised if you see Tam and MC in the semi’s, I’m not too sure about Terra Linda though.
