What in the world? How is Maria Carrillo seed third when Carrillo has beaten them twice this year and lost only once. We beat them on friday night! Was that game not just to see who the number on seat would be because its a co-league NBL title.

The game on Friday night was a tie. You beat them once!

True, NCS regards the third MC-Monty game as a tie– just go to the NCS website and read the PDF on tournament tie game interpretation. So to NCS, Monty got a tie in an away game; MC conceded a tie in a home game. Monty sees the three game series as 1-1-1. Better overall record to Monty- advantage Monty.

For confirmation, look at the NCS bracket– it has Monty as 19-1-2 (1 loss to MC and 2 ties, 1 to SR and 1 to MC).

If the game on Friday was a tie….then Monty deserves half of the NCS crown last year when it was decided on pk’s. That’s the problem with soccer and another reason why it doesn’t catch on in U.S.

They go by record when they do it this way. The game was for automatic berth . anyways they made it in .

    do the math.
with the tie, mhs and mc are tied. mhs beat casa twice and mc lost to casa in their only game.
    advantage to mhs.
when you pull out mhs, casa beat mc and gets the next seed.
committee got it and lucky for all the final say is on the field.

didn’t they factor in the pd rankings?
    they had mc #1.

I believe they are Co-Champions and MCHS won the tie breaker game. I’m not sure the game should even count on the teams records. I believe the NBL should switch to the way the SCL breaks ties. In the SCL they draw straws at the beginning of the season. I would usually say it should be decided on the pitch, but with nothing to gain, and much to lose.(injuries/red cards, etc) I don’t see the point in playing this game!

Soccer Fan….go to the NCS website and read the pdf on games…..not tournaments.

    Crowns….read the rules….you win in PK’s in a tournament…you win. Friday’s game wasn’t a tournament game. You lose.

It was set up to drive the Puma parents over the edge. Sounds like it’s working. Hopefully the players have more sense.

The number one seed tied both of their last two games? Just a gift for Montgomery. Christmas, it seems, came early.

If Monty makes it to the finals…against Casa, expect the exact same outcome as we saw the last two years. Casa comes in and plays their game. Monty comes in and they change their game. Casa wins, Monty loses.

If you’re surprised with that outcome…raise your hand. If you think the Monty coach has issues with figuring that out….raise your hand. If you think they’ll do the same thing hoping for a different result….raise your hand.

Can someone explain why NCS would consider the MCH vs MHS girls league playoff game a tie when considering seeding. I understand NCS considers TOURNAMENT GAMES where tie breakers are used to determine which team advances, a tie. This is understandable since most tournament games are shortened, and go directly to pks without over time and in some cases just use coin flips. But it is a stretch to consider a full length league game playoff game a tournament game.Clearly somebody stretching the rules.Besides the criteria for selection of teams clearly shows over-all record to include league playoff game(sec 514H)

Here are some more thoughts on the arbitrary seeding by the NCS Committee. Not only does the NSCAA National Rankings list MC ahead of Monty and Monty ahead of CG, but ESPN’s Fab 50 Rankings also have MC ahead of Monty and Monty ahead of CG (and it you follow the rankings, you know these two lists are completely independent). Now for some facts: MC and Monty faced each other three times this season, with MC winning twice (and yes, no matter what you think, PK’s is still an acceptable way to break a tie game and even if you count it as a tie, it should still be considered when seeding) and, although CG beat MC, they lost twice to Montgomery. Most of this occurred in the early season. Most recently, though MC had a better record than Monty in both halves of the league season (including the playoff game): 1st half: MC 6-0-1, Monty 6-1-0; and 2nd half: MC 7-1-0, Monty 6-1-1. It seems clear to me, without having to face the coaches, the selection committee let personal bias cloud their reasoning and the seeding should have been: MC-1st, Monty-2nd, and CG-3rd.

How was the committee personally biased? Do you have some inside info? Do tell. Those national rankings– yes, we know those have a lot of value; heck, Pinella’s ranking are worth more than those things– Bill has actually seen the teams play! Click on the link below, on “Soccer Fan” and then report back. Example: Tonight in girls Div III, Clear Lake advanced to the next round versus Fort Bragg, by way of PK’s. NCS listed Clear Lake’s record before the game as 9-10-3 (W-L-T) and its record after the game as 9-10-4, AND lists the result as 2-2, so it was a tie, just like the third Monty-MC game was a tie. If you want to regard it as an MC win in your own personal world, fine, but don’t say that NCS should have regarded it as an MC win– NCS’s own policy requires NCS to interpret that game as a tie.

  20. November 4th, 2009 11:33 pm

By the way, I think MC had a good argument for the number 2 seed, over Casa– even when you recognize that the third MC-Monty game was a tie. Casa’s win over MC was early in the season and the recent form of MC has been better than Casa’s recent form.

    Dear Soccer,
Do you not read lips (so to speak), I just told you the NCS just changed the records to reflect the playoff game as a WIN for MC and a LOSS for Monty. What can they say now? I’d say it’s clear from the most recent records (recent form aside), MC by the numbers deserved the #1.

Confused just beat Petaluma ,Casa, and Then Montgomery and their will not be any question’s who the best team is.

  23. November 5th, 2009 1:30 pm

Soccer Fan, Using this logic “Casa’s win over MC was early in the season” you should also toss out Casa’s two losses, as they were also early season. MCHS last six games were vs Monty 0-1 loss, and wins over Elsie, Rancho, Piner, Ukiah and Santa Rosa. One would hope for a strong finish with that schedule, only two playoff teams in the six, and MCHS went 1-0-1 vs them. SCL is the stronger league this year, look for three of four SCL teams to move on this Saturday.

Now that IS funny– NCS is so inept, it cannot even follow its own policy regarding games that go to PK’s … actually it was probably the staff person that changed the records on the bracket without checking with the Selection Committee or her boss. If someone talks to her, I am sure the records will be changed back to 19-1-2 and 16-2-2. Boy, the MC parents are sure upset about a seeding– maybe that will affect the girls and they will lose to Petaluma.

They might just lose to Petaluma, cause they are the stronger team.
